5.5.0.0 - Executables Update Only Bookmark

April 24, 2017
Includes UIUprep version 5.4.6.0

The UIU 5 (version 5.5.0.0 and newer) no longer employs driver.dat files for installation and manual updates. This (and future) versions will require Driver.imp files (e.g. DB170411-p5460.imp) for those operations. Online UIU 5 Updates will be unaffected.

Until IMP files are available via UIU Support Downloads, customers requiring a driver.imp file will need to contact UIU Support to obtain a download link. Again, Online UIU 5 Updates will be unaffected.

Feature Change - Renewed User Interface

    UI Changes
  • Added a "Update" tab that allows UIU5 to update via Azure, taking into account the "Beta" switch.

  • Added a "Performance" tab under "UIU Settings", which includes the "Use Multiple Threads" checkbox.

  • Added a "In Development" tab under "UIU Settings", which includes the "Beta" checkbox.

  • Added a new "Repository Management" tab under "UIU Settings", which allows users to manage their Repository in a similar fashion to UIU Plug-in Manager, using the same updater technology.

  • Beta Channel Testing
  • In the UIU Settings > Repository Management tab, an additional feature (Beta) has been added to allow the Administrator access to the UIU 5 Beta channel. UIU 5 executables and components that have been tested but not released will be available for customer testing/use. Contact UIU Support for additional details.

Note that if an Administrator should opt-in to the Beta channel and then later opt-out, when checking for updates a different version than what is the "latest" will be "found" and the Administrator will be prompted to download updates to make them "current" with the latest release branch UIU 5 version.

    Enhanced UIU Repository integrity checking
  • In the UIU Settings > Repository Management tab, an additional feature (CRC Validation) has been added which will allow the Administrator to employ a CRC check when updating the UIU Repository. All files will be verified to ensure accurate file contents in the UIU Repository. Due to the iterative checking of each file represented in the UIU Repository, this feature will require more time to run and will likely run more slowly.

Issue: ADK changes after UIU 5 is installed

Symptoms:
When building media from one of the UIU 5 deployment solution-specific wizards, the following error is realized:
“Error creating GhostCast Server Media: WIM40Base could not be initialized. WIM failed to initialize: DismWrapper Error: Failed initializing DISM.".

Resolution:
A check has been added (upon launch) to confirm that the appropriate version of WAIK/WADK is available (based upon the selection under Settings). If not available, the Administrator is prompted, denoting the issue, and required to select a new version of PE to use from the Settings panel.

UIU Log File Location CHANGE!

Details:
On deployed machines only, the Log folder & UIU data folder have been migrated from Program Files to ProgramData.

UIU log files on deployed machines are now located under the ProgramData\UIU directory. Additionally, resources needed by each application are extracted/placed in the ProgramData\UIU\bin directory (temporarily). Program Files is no longer used for any resources or logs.

NOTE: The UIU 5 Installation log files are also now located in ProgramData\UIU; other install files remain in Program Files.
